Greyhounds, Otters Win

Sault Ste Marie and Erie win in the OHL Western Conference Semifinals

The Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds and the Erie Otters were victorious in the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs.

The Greyhounds downed the Guelph Storm 9-3.

Nick Ritchie had a hat trick for the Hounds, who took a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal

Jean Dupuy scored twice for the Greyhounds who trailed 1-0 early and then rifled six straight goals.

Justin Bailey, Zachary Senyshyn, Sergey Tolchinsky and Gustav Bouramman also scored in the victory.

Overage Chris Marchese scored twice shorthanded for the Storm when they were killing a major to Luke Burghardt

Tyler Bertuzzi had the opening goal for Guelph who will host Game 3 on Sunday

The Erie Otters also defeated the London Knights 5-2.

Connor McDavid scored twice and had 4 points for the Otters, who won the opening game of the Western Conference semifinal

Dylan Strome, Nicholas Baptiste and Alex DeBrincat also scored for Erie who trailed 2-0 before rattling off five straight goals, two of which were shorthanded.

Trailing 2-1, Otters defenceman Kurtis MacDermid was assessed a major and game misconduct for checking to the head on Max Domi of the Knights.

While MacDermid's major was being served, Erie scored twice to take the lead.

Mitchell Marner and Max Domi scored for London who generated just 18 shots in the game

Game 2 is tonight in Erie.
