The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks have taken a 2-1 series lead in their best of seven AA quarter final with the Mapleton Minto 81's.
Hawks defeated the 81's 6-4 at the Plex in a game that went back and forth and wasn't decided until the last five minutes of the game.
Player of the game Curtis Johnston scored two goals including the game winner at 15:28 of the third.
Johnston says he was glad to see some players return from injuries which gave the squad a big boost.
Goalie Joe Kirkland and forward Brent MacDermid are just returning after injuries.
Hawks coach Peter Roedger says it was an exciting game but they're going to have to talk about the letdown in the second period when the 81's got back into the game with three goals.
However Roedger said his team persevered in the 3rd and carved out the win.
Besides the two goals by Johnston, singles came from Bryan Kazarian, Blake Underwood, Greg Wardell and Trent Hawke.
He says they're going to take that confidence back to Palmerston for the 4th game in the series on Sunday at 6pm.
The next home game for the Winterhawks is Friday, Feb. 20th, 8:30pm at the Plex.
That night, some fan will be shooting for $50,000 in the Miller Insurance $50,000 shoot out.
Elsewhere, the Shallow Lake Crushers had a much needed 9-6 win over the Shelburne Muskies and the Durham Thundercats lost 4-3 at home to Elora.
The Thundercats still lead that series 2-1.
