Two Charged in Roof Fraud

Regional | by Jon Meyer

Two men charged after warranty for roof work didn't work.

Police have charged two men who sold steel roofs to a resident in Kincardine and in Arthur.

A 40 year old French River man and a 58 year old man from Burlington have each been charged with two counts of Fraud over $5.000 and two counts of uttering forged documents.

Perth County OPP have been investigating the two since they received allegations of fraud and the forgery of documents by a salesman and the owner of a roofing company.

Police say the steel roofs were purported to be produced and guaranteed by a reputable Canadian steel roofing company.

But Police say when the homeowners attempted to obtain their 50 year warranty,  they discovered that there was no coverage since the sale and installation had been fraudulent.

The two men have a court date in Guelph on Tuesday January 27th.

Police says the fraud could be much more widespread.

They are continuing to investigate similar complaints in other jurisdictions.
