6 foot 8 free agent defenceman Jarett Meyer signs with the Owen Sound Attack.

Free agent defenseman Jarett Meyer stands with Attack GM Dale DeGray after signing a standard OHL player agreement with Owen Sound.

Owen Sound Attack General Manager Dale DeGray has announced the OHL club has signed free agent defenseman Jarett Meyer to a standard Ontario Hockey League Player Agreement.

Meyer -- a 6 foot 8, 250 pound defenseman -- spent the 2013/2014 season with the New Jersey Rockets of the Eastern Junior “A” Hockey League. Several notable alumni to come out of that league include former London Knight rearguards Jarred Tinordi and John Carlson as well as Chris Kreider and Rob Scuderi.

“We’re extremely pleased that Jarett and his family chose the Owen Sound Attack organization to further his hockey career.”, said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “Jarett is an extremely big bodied defenseman who moves well and can add some size and grit to our backend.”

In 26 games last season, Meyer had 3 assists and 43 penalty minutes for the New Jersey Rockets.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Owen Sound Attack and am looking forward to the upcoming season.”, said Meyer. “We visited Owen Sound earlier this month and while I was there, we were very impressed. I knew it was a great place to become a better hockey player.”

Meyer will give the Attack seven signed defenseman on their roster heading into training camp, assuming Alex Annecchiarico resumes his forward role with the club. Meyer will join (in alphabetical order) Chris Bigras, Santino Centorame, Tyler MacArthur, Thomas Schemitsch, Damir Sharipzyanov and Connor Walters.
