OHL Suspends Three Players

Two Whalers and a Spitfire will miss considerable playoff time.

The Ontario Hockey League has also suspended three players.

Two of the players are from Plymouth -- Yannick Rathgeb has been suspended for 10 games for his head check to Robby Fabbri of the Guelph Storm.

Carter Sandlak has also been suspended for four games for his match penalty slash in the same game last Friday.

Cristiano DiGiacinto of Windsor has been banned for five games for a bullying incident against former Attacker Gemel Smith of London in Game 2 of their series on Saturday.

The Knights and Whalers have also been fined a thousand dollars each for their players actions in a line brawl.

Game of Saturday, March 22nd, 2014 – Windsor Spitfires at London Knights

The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of a review of an incident which took place in a game played in London on Saturday, the 22nd of March, 2014, involving the Knights and the visiting Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club.

The incident reviewed was an altercation involving player Cristiano DiGiacinto of the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club and his bullying actions towards an opposition player.

Based on a review of the incident, it is the position of the League that player Cristiano DiGiacinto shall be suspended for five (5) games effective immediately.

In addition, as a result of the deportment of players on both teams, the London Knights Hockey Club and the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club are both fined $1,000.00.


Game of Friday, March 21st, 2014 – Plymouth Whalers at Guelph Storm

The Ontario Hockey League today announced the results of two incidents which took place in a game played in Guelph on Friday, the 21st, 2014, involving the Storm and the visiting Plymouth Whalers Hockey Club.

The first incident reviewed was a checking to the head infraction involving player Yannick Rathgeb of the Plymouth Whalers Hockey Club.

Based on a review of the incident, it is the position of the League that player Yannick Rathgeb shall be suspended for ten (10) games, dating from but not including the game of Friday, March 21st, 2014.

The second incident reviewed was a slashing match penalty infraction assessed to player Carter Sandlak of the Plymouth Whalers Hockey Club.

Based on a review of the incident, it is the position of the League that player Carter Sandlak shall be suspended for four (4) games effective immediately.
