Winterhawks Beat Wolves in OT

Port Elgin | by John Divinski

Saugeen Shores moves on in WOAA playoffs after 1-0 win in OT in game 5.

It took 78 minutes and 29 seconds for only one goal to be scored in game five of the North Division quarter final between the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks and the Ripley Wolves and the Hawks came away the winner.

Blake Underwood scored the OT winner during a power play to give the Hawks a 1-0 win and the series 4-games to one.

The Winterhawks will go on to meet the Elora Rocks in the semi-final series which will begin next weekend.

Hawks coach Peter Roedger says the team stuck to the game plan and it turned into a fiercely competitive game.

Roedger says you have to give credit to the Ripley squad because for most of the game and the overtime period, they played flawlessly.

But it was the Hawks who came out on top, after losing to Ripley 24-hours earlier.

Roedger says it's on to the next series and they'll have to step up their game another notch as they take on the Elora Rocks which is always a classic series.

That best of seven North Division semi-final series will begin next weekend, likely next Friday in Elora with the Hawks first home game likely next Saturday, Feb. 22nd at the Plex.

Game time will be announced.
