Nordic Ski Club Approved

Kimberley | by Kevin Bernard

NEC approves trail to cross private property and Crown land managed by MNR.

A new Nordic Ski Club is set to open in Grey County.

The Niagara Escarpment Commission has given "directors approval" to the plan for cross-country skiing near the Beaver Valley ski club.

That approval came on December 20th, and the President of the new Beaver Valley Nordic ski club, Cathy Little, is hoping they can open on January 3rd.

Little says initially, they will operate at the top of the escarpment on about five kilometres of trail, but they hope to expand over the next few years.

The trail will cross some private property and a large tract of Crown land managed by the Ministry of Natural resources.

Little says there seems to be a lot of interest in getting cross country going in the Markdale (or Beaver Valley) area.

Without any advertising and just thru word of mouth there are some 50 people on a contact list, and 25 members signed up to join the Nordic ski club.

Membership is $30 per person or $60 for a family.

Non members can pay a day-use fee of $6 per adult or $12 for a family.

Anyone interested can call Cathy Little at 519-986-4369 or head to the website www.beavervalleynordicskiclub.blogspot.ca
