Storm Bulk Up for OHL Run

Guelph | by Bayshore News Staff

Rychel and Ebert join Guelph from Windsor in exchange for Milne and multiple picks.

The Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League dealt captain Kerby Rychel and defenceman Nick Ebert to the Guelph Storm in a major transaction.

In return, the Spitfires receive winger Brody Milne and nine draft picks including five second rounders

Regardless, both releases stipulate the Spitfires will get five second round draft picks from Guelph (  2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 )

The deal came to light earlier this week, but Slater Koekkoek, not Ebert, was reported to be in the transaction.

It's believed that Koekkoek's reluctance stalled the deal, and may in fact have altered the Windsor package to include Ebert, not Koekkoek.

For Rychel, the son of Windsor General Manager Warren Rychel, this will be his 4th OHL organization.

Drafted by Barrie in 2010 in the first round, Rychel refused to report to the Colts.

His rights were traded to St Mike's where he played briefly before being acquired by the Spitfires.

Rychel, a first round draft pick of a Columbus and Ebert, an LA Kings draft pick, will make their Storm debut Friday night when they host the Owen Sound Attack.

The Attack have seven games remaining against Guelph this season

Owen Sound will host the Kitchener Rangers at 7 PM on Wednesday at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre
