The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Winnipeg Jets prospect Scott Kosmachuk of the Guelph Storm is the CHL Player of the Week with nine points in three games scoring six goals and three assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-8 for the week ending October 20.
Kosmachuk exploded for a career-high four goals and one assist on Sunday as first star of a 7-3 victory over the Ottawa 67’s helping lift the Storm to their fourth straight victory. His week also included scoring the game-winner plus an assist on Thursday night as third star of a 3-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires, and another two-point performance with a goal and an assist as third star of a 5-4 shootout win over the Niagara IceDogs on Friday.
Kosmachuk, a 19-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Storm. Selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets, Kosmachuk has 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points in 12 games so far this season after recording 65 points in 68 games in 2012-13.
Also considered for the award this week was fellow Jets prospect Nicolas Petan of the Portland Winterhawks who scored two goals with five assists for seven points in three games, and Sébastien Sylvestre of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens who scored twice with six assists for eight points in four games.
