Colts Win Again in Pre-Season

Barrie | by Ken Hashizume

Rookie Mangiapane scores twice in Barrie's 4-2 victory over Erie.

It was billed as a showdown between two of the OHL's top young stars.

But a rookie stole the show Friday night in Barrie's pre-season win over Erie.

Colts forward Andrew Mangiapane scored twice in a 4-2 victory.

The free-agent invitee from Bolton has been turning heads in training camp with his play on the ice.

Brendan Lemieux got a goal and an assist while Tyson Fawcett scored the other goal for the Colts.

The game featured Colts defenseman Aaron Ekblad and Otters forward Connor McDavid going head-to-head for the first time.

Both players entered the league at the age of 15 after being given exceptional player status by the OHL and both were taken first overall by their respective teams in the Priority Selection -- Ekblad in 2011 and McDavid in 2012.

McDavid had a goal and an assist in the game while Ekblad collected 1 assist.

The Colts are off until next Friday when they travel to Guelph for another pre-season game against the Storm.
