Protest at Springwater Park

Tuesday, April 2, 2013 1:11 PM by Mariane McLeod
First Nation members plan to camp at park until MNR meets to discuss closure.

(Springwater Township) -

It might be a long spring at Springwater Provincial Park.

A group of First Nation members say they're going to camp at the park until the Ministry of Natural Resources meets with them to talk about the park being closed.

The Springwater Park Citizens Coalition -- a group which has been fighting plans to close the park -- says the group of First Nations set up the camp on Monday and are now occupying the site.

The native Canadians say the park is on land they have treaty title to, and they deserve consultation about what happens to it.
