3 points for Scheifele, O'Connor collects 200th career point as Barrie wins 5-1.
(Barrie) - The Colts making short work of a struggling Wolves team. Mark Scheifele scored twice and added an assist as Barrie defeated Sudbury 5-1 at the Barrie Molson Centre Thursday night to move to within striking distance of first place in the OHL's Eastern Conference. Scheifele opened up the scoring 49 seconds into the first period and capped it with his second goal late in the third. The Colts also got goals from Brendan Lemieux, Mitchell Theoret, and Ryan O'Connor. O'Connor's goal gave the 20-year-old 200 points for his OHL career. Zach Hall and Aaron Ekblad each collected 2 assists. Charlie Dodero had the only goal for Sudbury (28-25-4-7) who have now dropped 7 of their last 10 games. Mathias Niederberger was stellar in net for the Colts making 34 saves while his counterpart Frankie Palazzese stopped 24. The win moves the Colts (40-19-2-2) to within a point of first-place Belleville Bulls in the Eastern Conference. The two teams meet up Saturday night in Barrie.
