Local Minor Sports Scores

Here are some scores for Minor Hockey teams in action this weekend.

The OS H2o Red Bulls played Lucknow today and won 7-0. Brittany Stinson recorded the shutout for Owen Sound. Leading the Red Bulls offence was Georgia Ottewell and Kristen Jacques scoring two each, Jacey Lisk, Kristen MacDonald and Keshia Jacques each scored one.

Next the Red Bulls are playing in the Walter Gretzky tournament on Feb 22nd weekend. The Red Bulls have two games on friday vs Brantford @3:45 and Kitchener at 10pm then will play Waterloo at 10pm on saturday and the top two teams in round robin go to the finals on sunday at 5:30pm.

Aidan Yarde had a hat trick and Mason Gow added a single as The Owen Sound Brian Pickett Ride Centre Junior Attack minor atoms beat Oro 4-1 in Georgian Bay Minor Hockey Playoffs on Saturday.

The Owen Sound Boot & Blade Midget AE hockey team beat Midland AE  last night at the Bayshore 5-4.  Sam Elliott scored twice and Geordan Stephens, Mark Bartley and Andrew Ceaser all scored once for Owen Sound. 
 
The Boot & Blade also beat Midland AE Saturday in Midland 4-3.  Geordan Stephens scored twice and Mark Bartley and Andrew Ceaser each scored once for Owen Sound.

The TCDMHA Country Charm Mennonite Furniture Midget C Rebel Girls opened round one of their provincial playdowns Feb.6th with a tough 2-1 loss to Grey Highlands.  

Kristen Sweiger scored the only goal for the Rebels, while Courtney Garbutt and Rebecca Carefoot scored for Grey Highlands.  

The Rebels bounced back last weekend with 1-1 tie Saturday night in Durham and 3-0 victory on home ice over West Grey.  Jessica Bryans opened the scoring for the Rebels on Saturday.  

Lindsay Nellson answered back in the second period to tie the game.  It was a fierce battle, but the 1-1 tie would remain.  

Kristen Sweiger, Danielle McNabb and Torie Lisk popped in the 3 goals for the win last Sunday.  The Rebels hosted Grey Highlands in the final game of round one Friday night.  

Rebels net minder Amandah Gill stood her ground to lead her team to a 2-0 victory.  Maddy Moore and Danielle McNabb scored the Rebels' goals.  

This final win has the Rebels leading their pool with 5 points, which is enough to send them to round 2 in their bid for a spot at the 2013 provincial championships in Ottawa.

TCDMHA Town & Country Garden Centre Midget B Rebels won their second game of Playdowns Saturday afternoon against Markdale Shooting Stars.

With lots of back to back action, Lexy Horton would open the scoring for the Rebels halfway through the first period.

Second period gave spectators lots of chances to cheer with lots of scoring chances and some great saves from both teams.

With the Rebels wanting to increase their lead and the Stars wanting to tie it up, tensions on the ice were picking up in the third. 

With a scrum in front of the Stars net, Karlee Sweiger (Courtney Torrie, Horton) was able to sneak it in past Elena Zago. 

With less than 2 minutes left in the game, the Rebels with 2 in the penalty box, Stars with one, the Stars would pull their goalie for a 6 on 4 attack in the Rebels end. 

The buzzer would signal the end of the game and a 2-0 win for the TCDMHA Rebels with the shut out going to Michelle McNabb!

The Horton's Concrete Finishing Novice Rep Rebels battled the Arran Elderslie Ice Dogs to a 7-4 win in Keady on Saturday. it was an all around great team effort as the Rebels take the first game of their WOAA Jacobi division playoff series.

The game opened up with The Ice Dogs taking the lead on an unassisted goal from Brett Hagan. The Rebels would reply late in the first to tie the game as Hayden Wardell scored unassisted. Early in the second William Hoare would put the Rebels ahead with assists coming from Maverick Lacey and Dylan Ledingham. 2-1 Rebels after the second.

The third period would see eight goals as the game see sawed back and forth. First the Ice Dogs would tie the game on a goal from Liam Copping assisted by Hagan. The Rebels would regain the lead on another goal from Hoare assisted by Nate Garrett. The Ice Dogs would tie it again when Jacob Fritz scored unassisted.

Then the Ice Dogs would take the lead half way through the third as Hagen scored his second of the game assisted by Annie MacKinnon and Copping. The Rebels would come storming back with four unanswered goals first Dakota McComb would tie the game with the assist from Wardell.

Then Maverick Lacey would put the Rebels ahead 5-4 with an assist from Garrett. Next Garrett would get one assisted from Lacey. Finally McComb would rap things up with an unassisted marker, making the final 7-4.

The series continues on Friday February 22nd at 6:00 in Chesley. If a third game is needed it will be played on Saturday 23rd in Tara at 10:30.

The township of Chatsworth Desboro Tire Novice LL Rebels beat the Saugeen Shores Storm 2. The score was 1-0 with Seth Rosenberg stopping every attempt the storm threw his way. It was a great defensive battle. The games only goal was scored by Layne Edwards.

Major Bantams are Owen Sound's only team left in OMHA playoffs. They are in quarter final series with Brampton. Best 3 of 5.

This past Friday Owen Sound won 9-3 in Owen Sound. That tied series 1-1.

Saturday Brampton won 4-2 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Game 4 is in Owen Sound on Sat Feb 23rd @ 2:30, Bayshore Owen Sound.
