Schladming, Austria | by Bayshore News Staff

World Alpine Ski Championships Commence

The World Alpine Ski Championships are underway in Austria.

Owen Sound skier Larisa Yurkiw posted the fastest Canadian time this morning in the Ladies Super G.

Tina Maze of Slovenia won the race in 1 minute 35.39 seconds.

Yurkiw finished 23rd overall, 2 and a half seconds behind Maze.

Starting 34th this morning, Yurkiw finished her run in 1 minute 38.14 seconds which put her in the top 25

Due to fog and weather conditions, the race was halted just two skiers after Yurkiw's run as 23 skiers did not get to make their run, meaning Yurkiw's starting position just got her into the mix for a placing

Another Canadian Marie Pier Prefontaine also got her run in before the race was halted; as she finished 28th in 1 minute 38.88 seconds
