Sailors Fall to Wingham

Goderich | by Rick Stow

Goderich loses second game to Wingham, heads to Mount Forest on Sunday.

Special teams made the difference for the Wingham Ironmen in a 5-1 Western Junior C Hockey League victory over the Goderich Sailors at MRC.

Four of Wingham's goals on Saturday night were scored on the power-play and the fifth was short-handed.

It was the second game of a home-and-home set that saw the Ironmen shut out the Sailors 6-0 at Wescast Centre Friday.

Goderich's Chace Duckworth spoiled Wingham goaltender Ben Errington's shutout bid early in the third period last night on a nifty play in deep from Matt Kerr and Jesse McIntyre.

Derek Elliott led the Ironmen with two goals with singles from Cole Pellett, Joey Terwoord and Nic Carter.

Sailors head coach Bill WIlkinson says discipline is becoming an issue for his club.

In last night's and Friday 's games Goderich was assessed several major penalties based largely on retaliation.

The Sailors are now 0-20-and-1 while the Ironmen vault past Mitchell into third place with 24 points.

The Sailors head to Mount Forest this afternoon for a 2pm Matinee while Wingham travels to Hanover for its next game on Sunday December 9th.

In Saturday's other Western Junior C action -- Joel Alton led Kincardine with two goals in the Bulldogs' 6-3 victory over Hanover while Haden Campbell's two goals included the game-winner as Walkerton downed Mitchell 5-2.
