A well-travelled hockey coach has returned to his roots in the Goderich area.
65 year-old Bill Wilkinson has been appointed head coach of the Goderich Sailors of the Western Junior C Hockey League.
Wilkinson last week replaced Brad Burton who left the club after compiling an 0-15-and-1 record since the start of the current season.
Wilkinson comes with impeccable credentials -- much of which were gained in some of America's most storied college hockey programs.
He was head coach of the Western Michigan Broncos for 17 years and coached the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux before ending his NCAA career with four years at Wayne State University in Detroit.
Wilkinson's US college coaching history also includes a stint at Bowling Green University in Ohio.
After his American collegiate career ended Wilkinson coached in Spain.
Wilkinson tells Bayshore Broadcasting Sports his return to Huron County was spurred by his family's decision to settle on his wife Mary's old family farm south of Bayfield where she grew up.
Wilkinson is joined behind the Sailors bench by new assistant coach Janson Broome who replaces Dan Drennan.
