Roll up those sleeves, because flu clinics begin this week in Grey Bruce.

The first clinic this fall goes Monday at the Grey Bruce Health Unit from 9 AM to 3 PM.

There is also a clinic at Northport Elementary School in Port Elgin this Thursday from 4 PM to 8 PM.

Our Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn says the Grey-Bruce Health Unit is encouraging more hospital workers to get immunized against the flu.

To do that, Doctor Lynn says they are supporting a request from Durham Region to include staff immunization rates as part of what hospitals report to the Province for accountability purposes.

It's essentially the same as when hospitals report mistakes or outbreaks to the Province.

Dr. Lynn says local Hospital and nursing home staff have improved their immunization rates in the past couple of years with nearly 70 per cent of staff at local hospitals immunized last year, which is about a 20 per cent increase.
