Winterhawks Bounce BackSaturday, October 27, 2012 11:18 AMby
After losing two games last week, Hawks get back in WOAA win column.
(Port Elgin) - The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are back in the win column with a convincing 12-2 drubbing of the Lucknow Lancers in WOAA Senior A hockey. Nine different Hawks figured in the scoring including Player of the Game Marc Roedger with two goals and an assist. Marc says he knew the tide was going to change. He says the team played really well last weekend where they lost two in a row but were the victims of a couple of bad bounces. He says it's good to get this one to get the team back on track. Marc's dad, coach Peter Roedger says he noticed the club was still confident and getting an early goal at 1:30 of the first period locked in what would be a busy night for Lancers goalie Layne Lavis, facing 43 shots. Coach Roedger says he noticed the change in the team at last Tuesday's practice. He said the guys had a great work ethic and everything was falling into place and that just carried on into last night's game against Lucknow. The Hawks scored four power play goals and a short-handed goal as well. Elsewhere in WOAA Senior Hockey, the Durham Thundercats remain perfect on the season after a 3-0 shut out of Shelburne. Elora meanwhile got by Shallow Lake 6-5. Saugeen Shores is also on the road tonight in Shelburne against the Muskies in their home opener. Game time is 8 PM. Coach Roedger says it's going to be a tough game and he wants his squad to go in with confidence but not be too over-confident. It's the first of four consecutive road games. The Winterhawks will play in Durham on November 2nd; Lucknow November 3rd and Elora November 9th before returning home to host the Shelburne squad on Friday, November 23rd.The Hawks are two and two on the season so far.
