There are more students enrolled in the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board than originally anticipated.

The student population is one per cent higher than what the Board had budgeted for -- that works out to 35 more students.

Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton admits the timing of the news couldn't be better as they funding changes begin.

Colton notes the additional students will mean more money since enrolment is tied directly to grant dollars.

The board has also hired two education assistants and a part time teacher since they have more students.

But Colton notes student enrolment is still down 1.6 per cent -- or 57 students -- compared to last year.

Colton says the biggest loss was in their high schools.

By the time this year's Grade 9 students graduate from high school -- the Catholic Board projects its enrolment will remain steady at 0 per cent.
