Meaford Council gives blessing to solar panel project on roof of Valumart Plaza.
(Meaford) -
Meaford Council has given the green light to solar panels on the Valumart Plaza.
Icarus Power Generation wants to put a 200 kilowatt unit on the roof of the Plaza, which would generate enough power for 25 homes.
Mayor Francis Richardson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the plan actually was voted on twice in the past few weeks.
It ended up defeated in a tie vote at the Committee of the whole meeting, but was passed by unanimously by council in a later vote.
The move doesn't cost the town anything, and simply gives Icarus Power Generation a few points in the Province's "Feed-In-Tariff" program.
There are so many applicants to get involved in Solar and Wind energy projects, that the Ontario government set up a point system.
Mayor Richardson didn't know the value of the proposed solar project.
He says if the company does get the go-ahead from the province, they'll have to return with plans and at that point the cost of the project will be revealed.
