OPSEU workers to picket offices of LHIN and Community and Social Services in London

(Holland Centre) -

The striking workers at Participation Lodge at Holland Centre are taking their protest to London.

Some of the OPSEU members will picket at Noon on Wednesday outside the office of the Ministry of Community and Social Services.

They will then picket outside the office of the South West LHIN at 1 PM.

They will deliver a letter from OPSEU President Warren "Smokey" Thomas, who wants to end the month long strike at Participation Lodge.

Thomas writes the front-line workers are frustrated by funds being misdirected by Lodge management and they want greater accountability.

OPSEU wants the LHIN conduct a financial audit.

50 workers at Participation Lodge walked off the job on September 22nd.

They are seeking a better working schedule and a 3.5 per cent wage hike, but the board at the Lodge has only offered an average 1.7 per cent raise.

The workers provide support to people with physical and developmental disabilities both in residential settings and in the community.
