Hearings to be held in December for Owen Sound convicted in murder of Velma Thomson.

(Sarnia ) -

An Owen Sound man will have to wait until December to find out if he will be sentenced as an adult for a 29 year old murder case.

A Superior Court Justice in Sarnia decided on Tuesday to set aside two days of hearings for the 44 year old man who was convicted of the 1983 slaying of Velma Thomson.

The 70 year old woman was found dead in her Petrolia home -- and the suspect wasn't arrested until 2008.

A jury convicted the man of first degree murder and sexual assault back in April.

He was 15 at the time so he can not be named under Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The sentencing is now scheduled for December 20th and 21st.

The hearing will determine whether the man should be sentenced as an adult or young offender.

A DNA profile that matched the Owen Sound man was found in semen found at the crime scene.

His right thumbprint was found on the vinyl tile floor near Thomson's body.
