Council will review report that may lead to closure of Marine and Rail Museum.
(Owen Sound) -
Owen Sound council will hear a recommendation on Monday night to close the Marine & Rail Museum.
The Director and Curator of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery will make a report to council tonight on the status of the museums.
In April, Virginia Eichhorn was asked to add General Manager of the Owen Sound Museums to her list of duties.
Eichhorn's first move was to eliminate admission fees to the Billy Bishop Home & Museum, and the Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum in favour of admission by donation -- the same thing she did when she took over at the Art Gallery.
Eichhorn says it was the first step in her review process of the museums.
She was asked to take on the position on a six month term, and look at potential collaborations between the museums and the art gallery.
Some of that work was already underway before she assumed duties at the museums.
Eichhorn told Bayshore Broadcasting News that during this period of "re-visioning," they would also look at other museum management models and museum-gallery collaborations to decide what will fit in Owen Sound.
After tonight's presentation to council, the city will decide how to move forward and whether to keep Eichhorn at the helm of the museums.
