Another sailing season has come to an end, and the Chi-Cheemaun is headed to Owen Sound for the winter.

Owen Sound Transportation Company General Manager Susan Schrempf says the Big Canoe left Tobermory just before Noon and should arrive in Owen Sound between 4 PM and 4:30 PM on Monday.

Several busloads of people rode up to Tobermory from the Owen Sound area this morning, and are cruising along the shoreline for the final Fall trip today.

As usual, the trip was a sell-out but about 60 people failed to show mainly because of the weather.

Schrempf says the final numbers of the Chi-Cheemaun season are not in, but heading into October they were pretty well on target to match 2011.

She says what she isn't happy about is missing three sailings in the last few days because of high winds.

Another ferry may return to service today.

You may remember our story last week about the M.V Jiimaan that was stranded after hitting a sandbar on Lake Erie last Thursday.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company says it has been given the O-K by the Transportation Safety Board to resume service.
