Chi Cheemaun Back in Water

Regional | by Manny Paiva

Chi Cheemaun sets sail again today, while another ferry has to be rescued.

The Chi Cheemaun is back on its regular schedule today.

Thursday afternoon's sailing was cancelled due to high winds -- but the Owen Sound Transportation Company reports the first sailing will resume at 8:50 AM.

The other departures from Tobermory will be at 1:30 PM and 6:10 PM.

The departures from South Baymouth will be at 11:10 AM, 3:50 PM and 8 PM.

The final run for the Chi Cheemaun is Sunday, followed by the annual voyage to Owen Sound on Monday.

Another ferry is stuck in Lake Erie near Kingsville.

The Pelee Island ferry -- also run by the Owen Sound Transportation Company -- hit a sandbar and got stuck Thursday afternoon.

Nearly three dozen passengers and crew -- including an infant -- spent the night on the ship because it was too windy for the Coast Guard to attempt a rescue.

Officials say the ferry is heated -- and food and water have been provided to those on board throughout the night.

The rescue efforts resumed at 7:30 AM on Friday.
