CEPU members vote in favour of new deal to end five week strike at Sifto Salt Mine.
(Goderich) -
A five-week strike at the Sifto Canada salt mine in Goderich is over.
Members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union Local 16-0 voted in favour of a new three-year contract on the weekend.
The walkout started on August 20th but lasted another four weeks after a tentative agreement was reached eight days later because certain wording was being reviewed.
The collective agreement calls for what Sifto's parent company calls competitive wage increases as well as more flexible production schedules and skill improvements related to updated mining technology.
Compass officials say the settlement ensures their customers will receive uninterrupted salt deliveries this winter.
