Opponents of the East Durham Wind Energy Project are meeting again today.

The Durham area residents are planning a course of action to fight NextEra Energy's plans to erect 14 wind turbines.

Organizer Grant Pattullo says once they get the original 14 turbines up, it won't stop there.

He calls it an invasion from a multi-national corporation.

The group will meet at 2 PM on Saturday in the Durham Town Hall and Pattullo believes they have plenty of time to game plan an attack on the proposal.

He says Next Era Energy's plans are by no means solidified yet ---- noting they don't even know where their sub station will be located.

The meeting today will focus on the groups strategies and how they plan to implement them at various levels.

Pattullo says some people have expressed interest in tackling issues on a municipal level, while others will focus on the Province.

He says first need local politicians to stand up and say NO to the project.

Pattullo wants West Grey council to join the other local municipalities who have fought wind turbine development proposals in their backyards.

He says they will also discuss plans with landowners -- who have apparently already signed leases with NextEra -- to help them get out of those agreements.

NextEra Energy expects to have a maximum generating capacity of up to 23-megawatts, which would produce enough energy for approximately seven thousand homes in Ontario.

The project, in the works since 2006, has already been awarded a Feed-in-Tariff contract by the Ontario Power Authority.

They plan to build the turbines just east of Durham, extending near Priceville.

The wind turbine opponents had an initial meeting in Durham back on September the 8th with about 70 people attending.

Pattullo expects another large turnout.
