Owen Sound awards tender to repair the historic CP rail station.
(Owen Sound) -
Owen Sound Council has awarded a tender for work on the historic Canadian Pacific Rail Station.
Allen Hastings Limited will begin work on the outside of the structure for a cost of just over 46 thousand dollars.
Mayor Deb Haswell says none of this money is coming from tax payers and is part of an anonymous donation by the Ontario Heritage Trust.
Haswell tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the aim is to get the building in shape so it would be attractive to a potential developer.
Haswell says people are waiting to see how much work the city is going to put into the structure.
The Mayor notes they hope to have new windows and doors before the snow flies - then some work will begin on the inside.
Right now the building is very run down and covered in graffiti.
Haswell urges anyone to report any vandalism they witness to the police or on the city website.
Work is set to start soon with the main concerns being window and door repair and crawl space work to stop water leakage.
