According to the President of the Goderich Legion Branch 109, a new website for veterans is a step in the right direction.

The government of Canada recently launched www.helmetstohardhats.ca -- a website with job listings for veterans looking to work in the trades.

Formerly-enlisted men and women can apply for trades jobs, as well as apprenticeship training or certification in more than 60 trades.

Although Helmets-to-Hardhats has existed since January, the website is the newest feature of the program.

Goderich Legion President Paul Thorne tells Bayshore Broadcasting News any program that assists our veterans with integrating into the workforce is a good one.

He says the program is too young to really know how successful it can be.

Thorne believes the government should play an active role in sending young veterans to college or university after they've served their country.

He adds our local economy can benefit from skilled tradesmen.
