(Holland Centre) -

OPSEU workers at Participation Lodge at Holland Centre hit the bricks at 12:01 AM on Saturday in a dispute over a new contract.

The 50 workers have been without a deal since March of 2011, and talks broke off last Sunday.

Participation Lodge Executive Director Elaine Kerr says she is disappointed no new talks have been held in the past week.

Workers set up a picket line at the main entrance, and Kerr says management along with some volunteers are now staying at the Lodge.

They will provide care for the more than 40 clients who are staying at Participation Lodge.

Kerr says four people who normally are cared for in Hanover, have been moved into the Lodge for the duration of the strike.

Meanwhile, the pool and gym that are normally open the public are now closed because of the strike.

OPSEU -- which is looking for higher wages for its members -- claims there is mismanagement at Participation Lodge.
