A thousand students from elementary schools in the Collingwood area are headed to a day at the fair.

Busloads of students are brought from the schools in Collingwood, Stayner, Wasaga Beach and Clearview Township for Education Day at the Great Northern Exhibition.

The event puts all the students from grades three and seven in front of cattle, sheep and produce for the day, in an effort to teach them where their food comes from.

Volunteers from the farming community act as teachers for the day's events.

The program is so successful, the School Board moved a PA day right across the County after parents protested that their kids would miss out on the day.
