The 2012 Relay for Life event at Harrison Park in Owen Sound is being called a success.

Chair Vicky Watson says a lot of tired people poured out of the park at 7 AM on Saturday.

The 12 hour relay raised approximately 50 thousand dollars this year.

Watson says the amount is down somewhat from last year, but they also had fewer teams involved so the total raised per team was higher.

Over the nine years the event has been held, the Owen Sound relay for life has raised about 750 thousand dollars.

The event moved to Harrison Park a few years ago, when construction started on the Regional Rec centre at Victoria Park.

Watson says after the response they got from participants they decided to keep it in the park.
