Police Officer Acquitted

Grey County OPP officer Rick Sadler found not guilty of perjury charges.

(Grey County) -

A judge has acquitted a Grey County OPP officer on all three counts including one of perjury.

Constable Rick Sadler was tried earlier this summer in the Superior Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

But the judge in the case handed down his decision on Wednesday in his home court in Brampton.

Sadler was charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and breach of trust in 2011.

The OPP Professional Standards Bureau began a probe into court testimony by Sadler, after a complaint from the Grey County Crown Attorneys' office.

The testimony was given at the trial of Debra Lynn Ferguson of Grand Valley.

The officer was alleged to have lied about taking a statement from Ferguson when it was really taken by another officer.

Constable Sadler is a five year member of the Grey OPP.

He had been suspended with pay from active duty after charges were filed.
