Conciliation cancelled by Bruce Grey Catholic School Board in talks with Teachers.
(Grey Bruce) - Now that the Ontario government has passed a bill that imposes a new contract on teachers, the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board has cancelled conciliation talks. They were set to begin Wednesday -- but Bruce Grey Catholic Teachers Association President Bill King tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the board has cancelled the conciliation process. Instead -- the Elementary, Secondary and Occasional Teachers Representatives will meet with the board on local issues. Those issues include class sizes, staffing committees and inclement weather days. King says it is likely going to be a short meeting, where they set up dates in October for negotiations to begin. The teacher reps and board officials will be meeting at the board office in Chesley at 10 AM on Wednesday. Other teachers unions in Ontario meanwhile are vowing to fight the new two year contract that freezes wages, cuts benefits and bans strikes. One union says teachers should refuse to attend school meetings on Mondays and they are calling the action McGuinty Mondays. Another union wants teachers to stop coaching sports teams.
