Status Quo at Grey County

No changes made to County Council structure, Warden will still serve on year at a time.
(Grey County) -
The structure of Grey County Council will remain the same -- at least for now.
Council voted in favour of keeping the status quo -- which is 18 members total and two members will represent each municipality.
Grey County Council also voted to keep the term of office for Warden to one year.
Not everyone was in favour of keeping it as-is.
There was also a lot of discussion on Tuesday about the future.
County Councillor Arlene Wright says it will have to change eventually -- but now just isn't the right time.
She says the idea of restructuring is planted -- now other options will have to be explored.
Councillor Wright was previously Warden for two years in a row from 2010 to 2011 -- and she feels it's nice to serve two years to see things through.
Others thought candidates should not have to commit two years at a time.
Some County Councillors suggested the Warden's term be changed to the term of a councillor -- which is four years.
Current Warden Duncan McKinlay says he's positioned his life so he can serve two consecutive terms -- if council so wishes.
Council will elect a new Warden come December.
Grey County Council will also maintain the current recorded vote structure -- which is one vote per one thousand electors in any given municipality.
