Chavez Hurls Gem For Brantford, sweep Baycats to win Intercounty Baseball Title.


A disappointing finish to a great season by the Barrie Baycats.

The Brantford Red Sox swept Barrie in the IBL finals on Wednesday night to win their fifth straight championship.

The Baycats could not muster much against Red Sox starter Chris Chavez who went the distance on a 3-hitter in an 8-0 shutout in Game 4.

Two of the Baycats' hits came off the bat of shortstop Robert Recuenco..

The big blast for the Red Sox came in the sixth when Tyler Burnell socked a two-run home run off starter and loser Brent Bissell to make it 5-0 for Brantford.

First year Red Sox first baseman Scott Thorman was named playoff MVP batting .477 with 10 home runs and 19 RBIs.

He went 0-for-1 in the game with four walks -- two of them intentionally.

Red Sox outfielder Josh McCurdy finished the playoffs with a .466 average, 5 home runs, and 22 RBIs.

He went 2-for-5 and scored a run in the game.
