(Goderich) -

A tentative agreement between Compass Minerals and the local Communications, Energy and Paperworks union is on its way to Goderich to be looked over.

CEP National representative Joe Free says they met in Windsor with Compass on Monday and reached an agreement in principle.

He says that means they agreed to certain documents and now both parties will be going back to look through the paperwork.

Free spoke with Bayshore Broadcasting News on his way back to Goderich and said they're looking to set a date for ratification sometime next week.

He says the initial disagreement the union had with the company over the contract giving Compass final say on employment terms and conditions have been cleared up.

Free says the union members will be the ones to decide whether the tentative agreement is acceptable or not.

In the meantime, pickets will remain up at North Harbour Road in Goderich.
