Anger with Cell Tower Process

Lambton Shores | by Peter Jackson

Public will not be consulted about replacement cell phone tower in Grand Bend.

The public will not be consulted about a replacement cell phone tower Bell Canada wants to put up in Grand Bend.

And Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber is concerned about the amount of electromagnetic radiation that comes from such towers.

In a news release, Weber says he respects the fact that Industry Canada has jurisdiction over the placement of cell tower and that there's nothing the municipality can do.

The structures come under the National Building Code and are not subject to a municipal building permit.

Industry Canada says Bell Canada meets what it calls the exclusion criteria which -- among other things -- means they don't have to hold public meetings on the project.

Weber meantime says he has contacted Prime Minister Harper and all federal MPs with his constituents' concerns about EM radiation from cell towers.
