Fire Bans Continue

Regional | by Bayshore News Staff

Huron County adds warning about open air fires to the long list of municipalities.

Huron County is issuing an advisory on open-air fires.

The Mutual Fire Aid Association stops short of imposing an outright County-wide ban on open fires.

Instead they ask you to check with your local volunteer fire department on open-air burning regulations or to see if they have imposed a ban of their own.

The lack of rainfall in recent weeks has left vegetation very dry and especially prone to fire.

There is a total fire ban in Kincardine, Southgate, Grey Highlands, Georgian Bluffs, West Grey, Brockton, Hanover, Arran Elderslie, Chatsworth, South Bruce Peninsula and Collingwood as well as Clearview Township.

The ban includes campfires and all fire permits have been cancelled.

Meaford is the only community that lifted its fire ban on Monday.

Officials say unauthorized burns could get out of control quickly and the property owner would be liable for the firefighting costs incurred.
