Municipalities Issue Fire Ban

Regional | by Bayshore News Staff

Several municipalities issue ban on all open fires due to hot, dry conditions.

The dry conditions have forced more municipalities to issue a fire ban.

Brockton, West Grey, Chatsworth, South Bruce Peninsula and Howick Township have banned all open fires until further notice -- and all fire permits have been suspended.

There is also a fire ban in most of Simcoe County -- but not Collingwood or Wasaga Beach.

Officials say extreme temperatures, a lack of precipitation and the long range weather forecast have prompted the ban.

The ban applies to campfires, recreational fires and agricultural burns.

Fire officials say the hot, dry conditions allow fires to spread faster than normal and can result in very dangerous situations developing.

Currently, trailer parks and campgrounds are exempt from the ban.

Officials say they will continue to monitor the effects of the weather and issue updates as necessary.
