Gemel Smith On Being Drafted By Dallas

Regional | by Jon Meyer

Smith had a hunch he would end up drafted by the Dallas Stars.

Owen Sound Attack Forward Gemel Smith had a hunch he would end up being drafted by the Dallas Stars.

Smith was chosen by the Stars in the 4th round of the NHL Draft this past weekend.

He tells Bayshore Broadcasting Sports that Dallas expressed a real interest in him during their player interviews.

Management in Dallas say Smith is a great fit for them as they build up the middle of their line-up.

Smith has been busy this summer bulking up for the upcoming OHL season.

At the beginning of last year Smith weighed in at around 155 pounds but he says the scale is now tipping at around 170 pounds.

As you probably know by now the 2012 NHL draft saw five Owen Sound Attack players drafted.

Smith says that shows the depth of their roster in Owen Sound.

He expects a stronger Attack line-up this season and a deep playoff run.

When asked about a return to the Memorial Cup, Smith replied " I think we have all the right tools."

This year marked the first time in club history Owen Sound had 5 players drafted.

Forward Jarrod Maidens went in the third round to the Ottawa Senators, in the 6th round Defenceman Jake Dotchin and forward Joseph Blandisi were picked back to back -- by Tampa Bay and Colorado.

And Forward Artur Gavrus went to the New Jersey Devils in the 6th round.
