Building Boom in Goderich

Goderich | by Rick Stow

13 permits for new homes have been issued this year in Goderich.

With the mild weather, construction in Goderich continued through the winter -- now, it's really taking off.

The Town's Building Department reports to the end of April -- there have been 13 permits issued for new single-family dwellings, three new commercial edifices, two industrial and one government structure authorized.

Compared to this time in 2011 there had been only two dwelling permits- and none in all other categories.

The Building Department says 70 permits have been issued in 2012, to a dollar-value of almost 13 million dollars.

To handle the workload, Milt Dietrich has been coaxed from retirement and will assist staff two days a week.

As well, third-year Architectural Technologist Nathan Schultz has signed-on for a Co-op placement and started his duties in mid-April.
