The Sifto Salt Mine is beginning a shut down today.
Compass Minerals Communications Manager Kelly Barton confirmed to Bayshore Broadcasting News two weeks ago that the salt mine would temporarily shut down this month.
The email blames historically mild winter weather as the reason for the break and says Sifto needs to rebalance their inventory.
Barton said they expect the shut down to last about three weeks.
The temporary layoff will affect about 280 employees.
