On Sat. May 26, the District 8 Ontario Lawn Bowls held its Fours Playdowns.
Two teams of men and three women's teams competed in Chesley for the right to advance to the Provincial Playdowns in Burlington June 9/10, 2012.
Hanover's Men's team Skipped by Chris Bester, Viced by Bob Bester, Seconded by Ken Bester and Led by Rick Allen competed against the Chesley's Men: Steve Schuknecht, Eric Weatherall, Murray Trask and Scott Barfoot.
In the first game, the Hanover team was 7 up with 2 ends to go when the Chesley squad scored 7 to tie before losing in the extra end. The score was 16-15 for the Besters.
The second game, Chesley won 14-8 which forced the third game to find the team to represent Dist.8 in the Provincials.
In this round, Hanover came out on top 23-6 when Chesley lost their momentum.
In the Women's set: Hanover's team of Gerry Belair, Pat Kaufmann, Glenda Ellig and Linda Walters were defeated by Mount Forest's team of Helen Kelley, Velda Francis, Marilyn Rogers, and Anna Darroch in a close 20-19 match where Kelley's team was up 7 coming home to give up 6 in the final end.
Chesley's team of Christine Schuknecht, Sandy Weatherall, Glenda Courtice and Theresa Bester drew the bye, allowing them to play Hanover the second game.
Chesley won 17-8.
When Chesley's women played Mount Forest to get the best 2 out of 3; Chesley won the first game 13-12, but lost 15-15 in the extra end on the second game causing the third game to be played on Sun. May 27 where Mount Forest rose to 20-11 and will be Women's Representatives of District 8 in Burlington.
In other bowling news - Chesley is looking to raise funds with a yard sale June 15/16 in front of the Fire Hall on mainstreet.
League Play has commenced at the Chesley Club seeing nine new members join and seven returning members.
Thursday night June 7th, Hanover will host the first InterClub Jitney of the Season.
