Sifto Plans Shutdown

Goderich | by Dianne Colgan

Sifto Salt Mine will close for three weeks in June to 'rebalance inventories.'

The Sifto Salt Mine in Goderich will be shutting down temporarily in June.

An email from Compass Minerals Communications Manager Kelly Barton confirms they will suspend production starting June 4th.

The email blames historically mild winter weather as the reason for the break.

Barton says they need to rebalance their inventories.

The layoff will affect about 280 employees and they expect it to last about three weeks.
