Marking Goderich Recovery

Goderich | by Rick Stow

Two events will be held in August to mark one year recovery of Goderich tornado.

There will be two ways to mark the first anniversary of the Goderich recovery from last August's tornado.

Branch 109 of the Royal Canadian Legion has received Council's approval for their event, "Goderich, A community in transformation" -- which take place August 18th at the Columbus Centre.

The Legion is planning an event with live music and sports celebrities, including the CBC's Ron McLean.

There will be a memorabilia auction for Legion Charitable Causes, with all money staying in the community.

Town Council committed to becoming a major sponsor for the Legion Event, and will contribute 5000 dollars.

Matt Hoy has been very active in organizing Tornado Relief.

He's had to reconstruct his own home in the process.

Hoy says he and the neighbours are inviting everyone in Town over to see what's been accomplished.

Hoy's free event will also go August 18th -- from 11AM to 11PM.

It too will feature live music-- Hoy says he will be guided by the wishes of an organizing committee he's already putting together.

Hoy appeared at Goderich Council's meeting May 14th to seek permission for a street closure, and seek direction on insurance to cover the non-alcoholic family function.
