Chi Cheemaun In the Water

Grey Bruce | by Kevin Bernard

MS Chi Cheemaun back in Georgian Bay, same rates as last year to start.

The MS Chi-Cheemaun is back in service between Tobermory and South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island.

There are two sailings per day until June 21st -- except for Fridays when there are three return crossings.

Today, the Big Canoe leaves Tobermory at 8:50 AM, 1:30 PM  and 6:10 PM.

Starting June 22nd and running through the summer -- there will be four return crossings per day.

General Manager of the Owen Sound Transportation Company -- Susan Schrempf -- says they are starting off the 2012 season with the same rates that were in effect last year.

But she says they may be forced to raise them if fuel prices continue to climb.

For a family car -- the one way price is $27.75 plus each adult over 12 years old costs $16.25.

The Chi-Cheemaun left Owen Sound on Thursday for its annual trip up to Tobermory.

Schrempf says it was a huge success.

All 600 tickets were sold for the cruise, with a return bus ride from Tobermory to Owen Sound Thursday night.

Passengers paid 60 dollars including lunch for the cruise, or $49.75 without lunch.
