The Toronto Maple Leafs continued their free fall down the Eastern standings, with a loss to the Florida Panthers 5-2, and are now winless in 15 of their 17 games.

The Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in overtime, in a pivotal Western Conference matchup. It's Calgary's 4th straight win, and they're tied with San Jose, as well as Colorado and Los Angeles, for 8th place in the Western Conference standings.

Steven Stamkos is the first player to reach 50 goals this season. The Lightning forward scored twice in a 6-1 win over the Boston Bruins. The Stanley Cup champions have lost 3 straight for the first time since late October.

Sidney Crosby is ready for another comeback. The Pittsburgh captain will return to the ice Thursday night against the Rangers in New York. Crosby has been battling concussion problems and hasn't played since December 5th.

Another win for the Barrie Colts, the 4th in a row, beating the Sudbury Wolves, 5-4. The Colts play again on Friday in Mississauga.

In the NBA, the Toronto Raptors continued their dominance over Cleveland, with a 96-88 win, for the 3rd time this season.

Thornhill native Milos Raonic went down fighting in a 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 loss, to Roger Federer, in the 3rd round at Indian Wells. The defeat leaves Raonic 0-and-3 against the big 4 of the A-T-P, after losing in Tokyo in 2010 and 2011 to Rafael Nadal. Federer is ranked 3rd in the world.

In the NFL:

The Washington Redskins have worked out a contract with free-agent wide receiver Pierre Garcon, who had 70 receptions for 947 yards and 6 touchdowns for Indianapolis last season. The deal is reportedly worth 42.5 million dollars U-S over 5 years.
Elsewhere in N-F-L free agency, the Chicago Bears have acquired wideout Brandon Marshall from the Miami Dolphins for two undisclosed draft picks.
Marshall made the Pro Bowl for the 3rd time last year.
