Scores and Games

The Toronto Maple Leafs picked up their fourth win in a row in a 2-nothing shutout over Buffalo. Jonas Gustavsson had 32 saves for the Leafs and Nikolai Kulemin had a goal, an assist and one crushing hit that sent Sabres agitator Patrick Kaleta to the ice.

Meanwhile, Wasaga Beach’s Jason Arnott had a goal and Jaroslav Halak made 19 saves for St. Louis in a 3-nothing blanking of Montreal at the Bell Centre. Ironically, Halak was traded by Montreal to the Blues in June of 2010.

Former Collingwood Blue Matt Belesky scored his first N-H-L goal in Anaheim’s 5-2 victory over Dallas.

Elsewhere, Ottawa beat Pittsburgh 5-1; Boston defeated Winnipeg 5-3; Calgary doubled New Jersey 6-3 and Vancouver got by Tampa Bay 5-4.

By the end of the month, the Stayner Siskins should win the Georgian Bay Mid Ontario Hockey League regular season. The Siskins played five games over the holidays, winning 4 and losing only to the rival Alliston Hornets, 5-2 on Dec. 30. Next game for Stayner is this Thursday at home against Alliston. If Alliston has any realistic hope of catching Stayner, they’ll need to win tomorrow night’s game.
---

The Toronto Raptors were victims of the Washington Wizards' first win of the season. The Wizards ended an 0-and-8 start, beating the Raptors 93-78. The Raps are back in action tonight at the A-C-C hosting the Sacramento Kings.
---

Hockey Night in Collingwood returns tonight. The boys and girls teams representing the Jean Vanier Storm and C-C-I Fighting Owls will square off for local high school hockey supremacy. The action takes place downtown at the rink with the girl's game starting at 7, and the boys at 8:30 p.m.
