from Mike van Dolder-Flying Dutchmen racing
The Flying Dutchmen race team had a great opening weekend in Calabogie, Ontario at the Calabogie Peaks Resort. The first national race events of the season were only scheduled for one day, but due to lack of cold temperatures and snow, the CSRA had to work hard to make the races happen. We were fortunate that Calabogie had snowmaking equipment to provide us with enough snow. The races were well attended by spectators and there was an awesome turnout of CSRA racers, as well as neighbouring circuits: Quebec's SCM and the American East Coast Snowcross Series.
With the weather cooperating a few days prior to the event, the team was able to have an hour-long practice on Saturday for some last minute tuning. On Sunday, our pro-lite (former known as the semi-pro class) rider, Chris Robertson, ran mid-pack in his pro-lite stock motos, but it was not good enough to get him into the final. Later that day, in his pro-lite open (or Modified), he finished 2nd and 3rd in the motos and made it into the final. Chris ran a strong final, which gave him a 3rd place finish in the pro-lite open class.
Our pro rider, Jeremy Van Dolder, had a tough first weekend with his Saturday practice session ending quickly due mechanical problems. The team worked hard on Saturday and got Jeremy back on the track for his Sunday afternoon races. Jeremy placed 5th with a strong run in his first moto. He placed 7th in his second moto and qualified for a 15 lap final. Unfortunately, Jeremy did not finish the final due to more mechanical difficulties. He strove in an amazing effort for his first time in the pro class and we’re looking forward to seeing his progress through the season.
All in all, it was a great feeling to get back to racing after a long summer. A special thanks to the CSRA and their staff, as well as the Flying Dutchmen crew members who made the season opener a great success. The team is off to a fantastic start for the 2012 season! We are looking forward to our next event in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec and we hope to see you all there.
